Support Masakhane-ans to the Indaba 2024
We are raising $15,000 by 20th August 2024 to support Masakhane-ans attending the 2024 Deep Learning Indaba, taking place in Dakar, Senegal from the 1st to the 7th of September. Your donations will help cover travel, accommodation, and participation costs, enabling our community members to contribute to and benefit from this important event.
Our members are co-organizing two important workshops at the DLI:
Empowering African Voices in AI - Data, Models, and Innovation
Voices of Africa: Building the infrastructure for African NLP
Furthermore, several members are actively participating in various capacities, including presenting papers and posters, as well as delivering invited talks.
What is Masakhane
In case you’re not familiar with us, we are Africa's leading community advancing NLP on the continent. We have over 2,000 community members, published more than 50 papers and recipient of 2 international awards (2021 Wikimedia Foundation Research Award of the Year, 2023 Ars Electronica).
Masakhane roughly translates to “We build together” in isiZulu. What is the Deep Learning Indaba (DLI)
The Deep Learning Indaba is an annual gathering that brings together researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning, primarily focusing on African talent and innovations. It aims to strengthen African AI, inspire new research, and create a network of machine learning practitioners.
